Welcome to Schweizer Heimatwerk: the most democratic of all democratic Swiss enterprises.
The idea took shape nearly a century ago to support mountain farmers during the lean winter months by marketing the goods they produced at home. Following an initiative by the Federal Council, Schweizer Heimatwerk was soon established by the Swiss Farmers` Union. A year later, in November 1931, it was transformed into a non-profit cooperative.
And today? The core idea remains the same, yet Schweizer Heimatwerk is more modern than ever. While committed to sustainability and its founding principles, a breath of fresh air is blowing through the organization. Naturally, the cooperative remains true to its roots, offering a platform for Swiss artists, workshops, and studios to sell Swiss arts and crafts. The products range from the classic to the modern—quintessentially Swiss, yet interpreted with artistic flair and a contemporary touch.
One Heart, Two Spirits
Schweizer Heimatwerk operates two shops at historic locations in the very heart of Zurich.
The flagship store on Uraniastrasse has been a fixture of Schweizer Heimatwerk since its early days. It is housed in a heritage-listed building right by the Limmat River—just steps away from Lindenhof and within sight of the Urania Observatory. From here, you can experience Zurich by night: sparkling lights reflect in the river, lending the Old Town an incomparable charm.
The shop on Bahnhofstrasse is integrated into the imposing Swiss National Bank building, surrounded by urban elegance. Its location right at Bürkliplatz—home to weekly markets and flea markets, and where the lake glitters invitingly—is among the most exclusive in the city.
