Fabric Frontline was founded by the Stutz siblings. André, Elsa and Maya. André, or rather Andi Stutz, was the most prominent public figure. He marketed Fabric Frontline like no other and is considered a 'bird of paradise', 'bon vivant', 'media darling', 'jack of all trades', 'eccentric', even the 'silk king'. The fact that he was also a businessman and hard worker was often forgotten. How else could a company survive and be successful in an industry that has long been dead in Zurich? The Stutz siblings from Embrach made it possible to find a lucrative niche and stay in business for over three decades.
How did he get into the silk business? Like the virgin giving birth to a child, smiles Andi Stutz. Stutz actually trained as a psychiatric nurse; after ten years in this profession, he switched to sales at a silk company owned by friends. 'You're good with people,' he was told. But Stutz didn't stop there. After just nine months in sales, he and his two sisters decided, 'in a fit of high spirits and recklessness,' to go into the silk business themselves. The first collection presented by Fabric Frontline in Paris was probably bought out of compassion, he says, but immediately adds that Chanel and Hermes were also among those who showed compassion. Ten hard years followed, in which the siblings worked almost non-stop, as Stutz explains. During this entire time, the three of them didn't allow themselves a single week's holiday, and they always traveled to exhibitions in Paris on second-class night trains. The division of labor between the siblings was always clear: while Andi took care of marketing and sales, Elsa was responsible for the creative side and the youngest sister Maya was responsible for special customers.
Fabric Frontline was sold to the Trudel Fashion Group in 2012, which in turn sold the brand after a good ten years. The spirit lives on and we have found a few more models in our warehouse, which we are happy to pass on to enthusiastic fans.
